Fatahia Chung has more than twenty years of experience working in the technology sector. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a Master’s degree in Information Systems. Throughout her career, she has worked in technical environments where she was often the only Black woman in the room.

Why She Started African Women Abroad

Fatahia started African Women Abroad, Inc. during the COVID 19 pandemic. Her own experiences showed her how important it was for African women living abroad to have a community where they could connect, share information, help one another, and feel supported.

What started during a difficult period grew into a community focused on helping African women adjust to life abroad and find the resources and connections they need.

Her Work

Through African Women Abroad, Fatahia mentors and supports women with their careers and everyday challenges. She helps women improve their résumés, prepare for interviews, build confidence at work, and become more comfortable in professional and leadership positions.

She also understands how difficult it can be to move to a new country and start over. AWA provides support for newly arrived women as they learn how to navigate work, community, and daily life in their new home.

What

She Wants to Build

Over the next five years, Fatahia wants African Women Abroad to reach more women in different countries and provide more resources, mentorship, and support.

She also wants women living abroad to be able to share what they have learned with women back home in Africa. The goal is simple: women helping other women through their experience, knowledge, connections, and opportunities.

Christabel A. Ziniel As an African woman living abroad, I understand both the beauty and the challenges of building a life away from home. I know what it means to navigate new spaces while holding tightly to culture, identity, and community.

African Women Abroad was created from a deep desire to ensure that no African woman in the diaspora feels alone. My vision has always been to build a safe, empowering space where we can connect, support one another, share opportunities, and celebrate our journeys. Whether through mentorship, professional development, entrepreneurship initiatives, or community conversations, our goal is simple: to help each woman thrive.

I believe in the strength, resilience, and brilliance of African women. When we come together, we create more than networks  we create sisterhood. We create confidence. We create impact.

It is my privilege to be a part of this community, and I remain committed to nurturing a platform where African women abroad can rise, lead, and flourish while staying rooted in who we are.
