African Women Abroad Inc.

We are a nonprofit community of African women living abroad, with members and supporters across the United States, Canada, Europe, and beyond. We come from different African countries, speak different languages, and have different stories, but we understand many of the same experiences that come with building a life away from home.

Starting over in another country is not always easy. Finding a job, understanding credit and finances, building a career, raising a family, starting a business, or simply finding people who understand your journey can be challenging. No woman should have to figure everything out alone.

That is why AWA exists.

We bring women together to share knowledge, experiences, opportunities, and support. A woman who has already learned how to navigate something can help the next woman coming behind her.

Through AWA, women can receive practical support with résumé building, interview preparation, career development, financial and credit education, entrepreneurship, business ideas, and professional growth.

But life is about more than work and money. We also encourage women to take care of themselves. We have conversations around wellness, nutrition, confidence, family, and the everyday realities African women face while living abroad.

Most importantly, AWA is a place to belong.

It is a place to meet other women, build friendships, learn from one another, celebrate our cultures, and stay connected to our African roots while building our lives in new countries.

Some of us have been abroad for many years. Some have just arrived. Some are professionals, mothers, students, entrepreneurs, or women simply trying to find their next step.

Wherever you are in your journey, there is a place for you here.

Helping Each Other Together

Not just in words, but through what we do for one another.
